Adopt a Pet
Dog and cat adoptions are the cornerstone of our mission and services. After more than 25 years of sheltering animals and placing them into loving homes, our work is still not done. There are thousands of animals in shelters waiting for homes across the Chicagoland area. We hope you will take some time to learn more about our adoption process and meet the pets currently available for adoption.
NAHS strives to make appropriate, permanent matches between adopters and our cat and dog friends. Here is an outline of how the process works:
- Visit the shelter during our adoption hours to see if there is an animal that interests you.
- Complete our brief "Pets and People Profile" and discuss it with an adoption counselor to determine if the animal is well suited for your family.
- Interact with the animal you choose.
- Let us know if you are still interested in adoption after you visit with an animal. If you are still interested, ask your adoption counselor about the option to hold, as we request that you to carefully think about your decision overnight.
The NAHS Adoption Fees are:
- Senior Cats (7 years & older) - $50
- Adult Cats (6 months to 6 years) - $125
- Kittens - $175
- Senior Dogs (7 years & older) - $50
- Dogs (6 months to 6 years) - $200
- Puppies - $250
Pet Perks for Seniors animal adoption program allows senior citizens age 60 and older the opportunity to adopt an adult or senior pet for a significantly reduced fee. The Pet Perks adoption fee for adult animals 6 months to 6 years of age is reduced by 50% and the fee for adoption senior animals 7 years of age and older is only $10.
We consider our adoption fees to be a great value considering the benefits you see below and our ongoing support to adoptees.
